Venlafaxine, sold under the brand name Effexor is an antidepressant drug licensed for depression and anxiety.[1][2]

Venlafaxine is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor antidepressant (SSNRI), which is the same class of drug as duloxetine (cymbalta).[3]

Venlafaxine has been investigated for use for treating nerve pain (neuropathic pain) in people without depression, but evidence is generally weak.[4]
