What it's like to have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, a misunderstood illness that leaves people in wheelchairs and derails entire careers[1]
BUSINESS INSIDER By: ALISON MILLINGTON. (Feb 18, 2020)
"After months of struggling both mentally and physically to do simple tasks, dealing with constant, extreme exhaustion that wouldn't go away no matter how much I slept, in 2015, a doctor told me I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)."
"Clare Josa, 46, believes her CFS was brought on by "having four fillings replaced in four weeks while living in a student flat with no central heating.
“I was at university when I got ME,” the author of "Ditching Imposter Syndrome" said. “I had to accept I had a problem when I woke up one morning and couldn't get out of bed, despite having an exam...”
That was 20 years ago, and Josa is still living with the illness."

We should add WSJ article *2016: Patients, Scientists Fight Over Research-Data Access, Amy Dockser Marcus, Wall Street Journal, 7 Mar 2016 Olliec (talk) 02:16, 8 March 2016 (PST) Not sure where to add: I got ME and thought: ‘This is the end’ (Original The Times link behind paywall) --Samsara (talk) 18:27, 6 November 2016 (PST)
I think I'm going to go through and change all the references to the standard citation format used for news articles. That way this page can be used to easily copy/paste references to other pages across MEpedia. At the same time I'd like to add the date of each article in parenthesis after the author name. I think this is important information and should be included.--Samsara (talk) 07:57, 30 November 2016 (PST) |
Two new articles to add ~ done[edit source | reply | new]
- NEW ZEALAND HERALD By: Natalie Akoorie. (02-Nov-2019)
- "It didn't work. In fact Robert grew sicker."
- "Marcel Robert now lives in a quiet, darkened room in a rest home."
- "Following medical advice I paid for meals to be delivered and home help as Southern Health refused to believe he had a physical illness, saying they didn't recognise ME," Ron says."
- As his son grew sicker, he watched on helpless, and says apart from Vallings, other doctors did not believe he had a physical illness. There's another code within DNA which responds to environment and things that are happening to you and can change in diseases, called the epigenetic code... We've looked at 30 million sites across their whole genome, to look for changes in these little chemical tags, and they change the function of the DNA in terms of whether information gets out or not."

Headings for science - change -- ~Njt (talk) 19:49, May 29, 2020 (EDT)[edit source | reply | new]
I think the current headings for science aren't helpful - I would like to see a heading for each main area of research or each major bodily system. At the moment we have:
- 5.1 PACE trial *5.2 PACE Trial data release *5.3 Research *5.4 Brain images *5.5 Chemical signature in blood *5.6 ME/CFS and COVID-19
- 6.1 Funding *6.2 PACE trial *6.3 PACE trial data release *6.4 Research *6.5 Brain imaging *6.6 Chemical signature in blood *6.7 Advocacy *6.8 Post-exertional Malaise *6.9 Advances in understanding ME
I would like to see something like:
- Brain and neurological
- Immune system and Infections
- Metabolism, energy and endocrine
- Circulation and heart
- Biomarkers and blood
- Drugs and Treatments
