Hydroxychloroquine, sold under the trade names Plaquenil among others, has been used for many years to treat malaria. It is also used to treat systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatic disorders like rheumatoid arthritis and Sjögren's syndrome, and porphyria cutanea tarda.
