Talk:Chronic Lyme disease

From MEpedia, a crowd-sourced encyclopedia of ME and CFS science and history

please can we discuss

  • Lyme disease can be caused by *many* bacterial species within Borrelia family (see wikipedia)
  • It can be transmitted by *many* different vectors - multiple ticks species, other insects, sexually, congenitally, etc
  • the bullseye rash / erythema migrans is the same thing - and is an early symptom
  • expand 'neurological symptoms' to mention autonomic probs, paralysis, seizures, temporary blindness, tourette's, etc
  • the CDC testing has been criticised for inaccuracy - many false negatives on the first tier test, borrelia often suppress the immune system, tests for limited number of species (there are hundreds), and deliberately ignores one of the most significant markers (for historical / technical reasons).
  • ILADS (intnl lyme & associated diseases society) have very different guidelines, which may be more reliable
  • very different guidelines & treatment in europe, brasil, etc - especially where it's endemic
