Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β ) is a cytokine secreted by many types of cells including macrophages.

TGF-β is disturbed in Marfan's syndrome and Loeys–Dietz syndrome.

It activates fibroblast proliferation[1] and stimulates fibroblasts to release connective tissue growth factor (CTGF).[2]
