Suggestion[edit source | reply | new]

Combine the "L-Carnitine" and "Acetyl-Carnitine" into the "Carnitine" page. There really needs to be only one page, not three.

The L-carnitine and acetyl-carnitine pages have now been integrated into this page.

Those 2 pages are now redirects to this page.

National variation?[edit source | reply | new]

One of these papers explicitly cites national variation in carnitine levels in controls (Kuratsune 1998: "Both serum ACR and free carnitine (FCR) levels in normal healthy subjects were quite different between Japanese (n=131) and Swedish people (n=46) (p<0.001).") and other conflicting findings came from research carried out in different in still other countries (US, Netherlands, etc.) It may be worth examining these papers more closely to see whether national difference should be discussed here. That’s an interesting idea. I would include it if it could help explain the findings of a study. (eg japanese patients but swedish controls). I would also include it if it is somehow relevant to MECFS. (eg More cases of ME in the country with lower carnitine levels.) But if there is no connection to ME and no connection to ME studies, then it doesn’t have to be included. We are not interested in everything about carnitine, just in how carnitine might relate to ME. My brain is really addled right now so I apologize if I didn’t answer your question. Was it a question? OK, I’m going back to sleep now...
