Nonexudative pharyngitis

Nonexudative pharyngitis is an inflammation of the back of the throat (pharynx) that is not accompanied by the accumulation of thick mucous material or pus in or on the throat tissues.

Symptom recognition

• In the Holmes criteria, nonexudative pharyngitis that has been documented by a physician on at least two occasions, at least one month apart is an optional criteria for diagnosis, under the section Minor Physical Criteria.

pharyngitis An irritation or swelling of the top part of the throat, at the back of the mouth, usually caused by an infection such as Streptococcus. The hallmark symptom is a sore throat without cough.
