ME Association of South Africa

The ME Association of South Africa (MEASA) was a patient group providing support for ME/CFS patients in South Africa. It became defunct after the death of Arlene Vermaak (on 28 August 2014) who founded and ran the association.
Aims
- to educate sufferers and their families about the illness and to provide coping strategies, information and support to its members.[1]

- news journal provided to members 3 times a year which keeps readers informed about developments in worldwide research, medical opinion and helpful coping strategies
- literature available on various aspects of the illness at a very low cost[1]
History
MEASA was founded in the early 1990s by Arlene Vermaak. It was run almost singlehandedly by Vermaak throughout its ten year history until her death on 28 August 2014.[2]
Notable people
Dr Ian Hyams was chairman of MEASA.[3]
