The current United States diagnostic criteria for ME/CFS are the Systemic Exertion Intolerance Disease criteria, which have been in use since 2017. The older Fukuda criteria from 1994 may also be used, but the hallmark symptom of Post-exertional malaise is not required by the Fukuda criteria.
