Mark Donohoe is a GP and integrative medicine doctor based in Sydney, Australia, who mostly treats patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, myalgic encephalomyelitis, fibromyalgia, multiple chemical sensitivity, and chronic inflammation. According to Donohoe, "treating a person with CFS requires time, patience, a willingness to hear their story and a commitment not to abandon them." He also claims that about half of patients referred to him by other GPs do not have CFS, but another diagnosis missed by basic tests.[1]

Protocol[edit]

  • Carry out a basic medical and family history
  • Obtain details of antecedents of onset
  • Examine assuming it is not CFS
  • Do basic tests - thyroid, heart, cancer, auto-immune
  • Organise a series of consults a few weeks apart
  • Discuss exercise and diet
  • Consider use of NSAIDs and Omega 3s for pain
  • Take expanded history if no results with tests
  • Further tests - urinary iodine, basic immunology, stool test, expanded serology
  • Work with a team of practitioners[1]

He has also developed a stepwish approach called "GEMINI" - standing for genetics, environment, microbiome, inflammation, nutrition, and "the I that is We".[2]
