Thyroid disease
From MEpedia, a crowd-sourced encyclopedia of ME and CFS science and history
Thyroid disease refer to a number of medical conditions that affects the function of the thyroid gland, and can include hyperthyroidism (excess thyroid hormone), hypothyroidism (insufficient hormone), goiter, and thyroid cancer, as well autoimmune thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease.[1]
Typically, hypothyroidism is ruled out before the diagnosis of myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome is given. However, there is some evidence to suggest a subset of ME/CFS patients may have subtler thyroid hormone issues.[citation needed]
