Sciatica

Sciatica is a form of nerve pain involving the sciatic nerves. Pain from sciatica runs down part of all of the sciatic nerve, which starts at the lower spine and runs through the buttocks, down the back and side of the leg, into the foot and toes.[1].

Signs and symptoms[edit | edit source]

  • Pain along the path of the sciatic nerve
  • Numbness, tingling, burning pain
  • Hip pain
  • Pain in the buttocks or leg that is worse when sitting
  • Weakness or difficulty moving one leg or foot
  • Shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand or sit

Sciatica often affects just one side of the body.[2]
