Chronic fatigue syndrome[edit | edit source]

Newman was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome in the late 1980s, after being diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus in 1986.[1] In a People magazine interview he states: “I couldn’t get up a couple of steps without getting out of breath,... But the worst part is in your brain. You just can’t think of anything that you look forward to doing. Nothing looks good.”[2] Newman was ill for 2½ years, but recovered.[1]
