Poliomyelitis, also known as polio is a disease caused by the poliovirus.

Acute onset with flulike symptoms. Complications may be severe. Because of vaccination,it is not found in industrialized countries like the U.S. However, it's still common in other areas. Children are at greatest risk. Virus is spread primarily through fecal-oral contamination. [1][2]
