Mickel therapy

From MEpedia, a crowd-sourced encyclopedia of ME and CFS science and history

Mickel therapy is a psychological intervention for CFS/ME developed by Dr David Mickel in 1999.[1] It has been promoted as an effective treatment for ME/CFS, as well as for fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, anxiety, migraines, multiple sclerosis, and other illnesses which David Mickel describes as "energy disorders".[2] David Mickel has also written a book about Mickel therapy called Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, ME and Fibromyalgia - The Long Awaited Cure.

Theory

Evidence

No studies have been done on Mickel therapy.

Criticism

It made me feel worse, if affected my mental health quite badly, plus the practitioners don’t seem very well trained and are quite rude, it’s also very slow, I did it for years.

Costs and availability

Mickel therapy is widely available in the UK. There are a smaller number of practitioners working in other countries, although phone and email treatment are also available.

Treatment is usually an hour-long one-on-one session held weekly or fortnightly. The fee for each session is generally between £80-£100. 75% of patients finish treatment in 8 sessions, with 25% requiring further sessions.[3]
