==MediaWiki 1.35 Hitcounters fix == After upgrade goes live, set popular pages link to Special:PopularPages and make this change on Portal:Contents too. ~Njt (talk) 17:36, July 20, 2021 (UTC) ==Feedback == User:Pyrrhus - feedback on your suggestion. The languages extension / templates aren't installed or working yet. I'm not sure what this would link to or how it works. I like the idea of including the search, but I think it should be in the top part eg under Popular pages. Are both Help and MEpedia herp needed? Help is just a link to mediawiki info - we could include this in the MEpedia Help category instead. A Cite this page link would also be good - in the top section.notjusttired (talk) 07:50, 26 April 2019 (EDT) ::Thanks for the great feedback! Here’s some feedback to your feedback: ::1) If/when we ever pursue internationalization, this sidebar will need to be reformatted to be in internationalized style. ::2) The SEARCH is already in the existing sidebar but nothing shows up. I don’t know why. To be safe, I was keeping it where it was. ::3) We could change ‘Help’ to read ‘MediaWiki Help’. Or we could move it from the sidebar to the MEpedia Help page as you suggest. Either one is fine by me. ::4) I’m not sure how a “Cite this page” link would work. Could you clarify? ::Pyrrhus (talk) 12:08, 26 April 2019 (EDT) :::Cite this page is an extension, I think it will appear automatically once installed. It gives a formatted citation for the current page that people can use in their own website or article. notjusttired (talk) 06:52, May 30, 2019 (EDT) ::::Ahh. Thanks for clarifying. If it helps, we already have a “Permanent link” under “Tools” in the sidebar, which is not a citation, but it is a permanent link that can be used when citing web pages... ::::Pyrrhus (talk) 12:28, May 30, 2019 (EDT) == links for editors == Please add a link to the upload form. It would be great to encourage people to upload their own awareness posters in particular. I just realized today that uploading is not the easiest thing to find, people often use Insert Media from articles, which means no licence choices appear. notjusttired (talk) 06:52, May 30, 2019 (EDT) :There is an “Upload file” link under “Tools” in the sidebar. The tutorial also directs people to the Special:Upload page. I didn’t know that people could bypass the license choices through the VisualEditor! That’s really annoying! :Pyrrhus (talk) 12:28, May 30, 2019 (EDT) ::I think it would help to have an "upload pictures" link on the sidebar for non-editors who might just want to add millions missing photos or their own posters. ::Another thought I had was to add a Pirtsls link to the side bar, eg for the new List of Portals page - hopefully an alternative to the Contents page- Portal:Contents/Portals ~, :::That’s an interesting idea about an upload link for non-editors. I’ll forward that suggestion to the slack group as I don’t know the pros & cons. :::That’s a great idea User:Notjusttired to link to Portal:Contents/Portals!!! What should we call the link? “Contents (portals)” or maybe just “Explore”? :::Pyrrhus (talk) 19:31, June 8, 2019 (EDT) ::::Just call it Portals - that's what Wikipedia does - people tend to click on stuff to find out what it is anyway, as long as it's in an obvious place where it's likely to let them go back. Alternatively, Browse might be a good name. Two links called Contents would be off-putting I think. notjusttired (talk) 19:23, June 9, 2019 (EDT) :::::Thanks! I like the term “Browse”. Let’s go with that! :::::Pyrrhus (talk) 18:57, June 10, 2019 (EDT)
