May12th.org writes: "May 12th has been designated as International Awareness Day for Chronic Immunological and Neurological Diseases (CIND) since 1992. May 12th was chosen as it is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. She was believed to have suffered from ME/CFS. In 2010, a write-up was done to give a history of May 12th."[1]

"May 12 is CFS/ME and Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. This date was chosen to honor the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale suffered from pain, fatigue and symptoms characteristic of CFS or Fibromyalgia, yet had many remarkable accomplishments, including establishing the Nightingale Training School."[2][3]
