Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (The Facts): All The Information You Need, Straight From The Experts [sic] is a book by Dr. Michael Sharpe, a psychiatrist, and Frankie Campling.
Summary[edit | edit source]
This book claims to be a 'compassionate guide' to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) (which it labels an illness rather a syndrome). Though it recognizes 'sufferers have had to deal with skepticism from their families, employers, and even health care professionals', it relies on poorly evidenced and potentially harmful treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and graded exercise therapy (GET). The authors claim these recommendations are 'based solely on scientific evidence', though naturally they do not identify the many flaws with the evidence that have since become mainstream knowledge.
The book also claims to 'deal with CFS in children', despite the paucity of evidence in this area.
