Cell signaling

Cells communicate within themselves and to and from the other side of the cell membrane (outside the cell). This is known as cell signaling, and is important in health and disease.[1]

cell membrane A very thin membrane, composed of lipids and protein, that surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell and controls the passage of substances into and out of the cell.
