Colors set using "style=color" code -- ~Njt (talk) 01:05, August 22, 2020 (UTC)[edit source | reply | new]

Hi! This page is a great idea. I've edited the colors - they look temporary gone but will be back once a small skin change is made. This is because we have a dark skin called Timeless, which means any different text or background colors need to be adjusted so the colors work with a background that's almost black and white text. Colors also need to meet the AA or AAA web contrast settings for accessibility, so that people with low vision or altered screen settings can still read pages easily. This can be checked online. The green used on the page is fantastic for the dark skin Timeless but not enough contrast for the default light skin.

I'm going to get this documented when I can, but the best approach is to use a class for the color, eg class=green to set a different shade of green depending on whether the timeless dark skin is being used or one of the other light ones. I have added this to the page already. I am currently working out which shades of different colors meet the AA web accessibility standards. There are already called and alternance alternance2. The Notable studies page shows background colors with classes added to get the Timeless dark skin visible. Color classes will be added to MediaWiki:Common.css and MediaWiki:Timeless.css.

Thank you both for your work on this page, and your recent work elsewhere. It's much appreciated! User:Hip User:Fireballsky ~Njt (talk) 01:05, August 22, 2020 (UTC)

Thank you, and thanks to User:Fireballsky who did all the Googling to track down the various herpesvirus studies.
Regarding this color scheme thing: you migh like to look at the page List of enterovirus infection studies which is a sort of sister page to this one; it uses the same red and green color scheme Hip (talk) 05:19, August 23, 2020 (UTC)
