Human papillomavirus or HPV refers to a group of viruses. Infection with a HPV virus may go away by itself, may cause no symptoms or may cause warts on the skin. Many types of HPV are sexually transmitted, and some of these like HPV 16 and HPV 18 cause cervical cancer or other serious diseases.
