Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is a co-factor in amino acid metabolism, the folate cycle, and the biosynthesis of neurotransmitters, including dopamine, GABA, melatonin, norepinephrine, and serotonin.
Role in the body[edit | edit source]
Vitamin B6 is a cofactor for diamine oxidase, the enzyme that breaks down histamine. It is also a cofactor (in pyridoxal 5'-phosphate form) of histidine decarboxylase, the enzyme that catalyzes the decarboxylation of histidine to form histamine.
Chronic fatigue syndrome[edit | edit source]
One very small study found decreased functional status of several B vitamins including pyroxidine, riboflavin and thiamine.[1]
