Short chain fatty acid

Short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) are fatty acids with an aliphatic tail of less than six carbon atoms.

Many SCFAs are produced by commensal bacteria in the large intestine including butyrate and acetate by the fermentation of dietary fiber.
