==Bias and inadequate peer review == Many journals do not have open peer reviews, however some have been found to have clearly biased peer reviewers, or authors are invited to suggest "independent" peer reviewers but suggest biased ones. In one published peer review, the peer reviewer commented that they did not read past the abstract, but the research was published regardless.<ref name=music31May2020>{{Cite web|url=https://www.virology.ws/2020/05/31/trial-by-error-letter-to-bmj-paediatrics-open-about-that-cbt-music-therapy-study/| title = Trial By Error: Letter to BMJ Paediatrics Open About that CBT-Music Therapy Study | last = Tuller | first = David | authorlink = David Tuller | date = 2020-05-31 | website = [[Virology blog]]|archive-url=|archive-date=|url-status=|access-date=2020-09-18}}</ref> In another case, an author submitted an invited editorial and was asked to nominate independent peer reviewers but nominated only those with well-documented adherence to the same paradigm of ME/CFS. In this case, the journal rejected the publication, and the author then published it on a popular health website which did not require peer review.<ref name="paceWesselyTitanic">{{citation | last1 = Wessely | first1 = Simon | authorlink1 = Simon Wessely | title = The PACE Trial for chronic fatigue syndrome: choppy seas but a prosperous voyage | website = National Elf Service | date = Nov 4, 2015 | url = http://www.nationalelfservice.net/other-health-conditions/chronic-fatigue-syndrome/the-pace-trial-for-chronic-fatigue-syndrome-choppy-seas-but-a-prosperous-voyage/}}</ref> A series of publications about chronic fatigue syndrome in UK school children were published using the same invalid ethics approval number without this being picked up in peer review. This lead to an investigation into pediatrician [[Esther Crawley]] by the University of Bristol, and published corrections for all articles - none of which had an ethics approval.<ref>{{Cite journal | last = British Medical Journal Publishing Group | first = | authorlink = The BMJ| date = 2019-11-01| title = Correction: unidentified chronic Fatigue Syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME) is a major cause of school absence: surveillance outcomes from school-based clinics|url=https://bmjopen.bmj.com/content/9/11/e000252corr1|journal=BMJ Open|language=en|volume=9|issue=11| pages = e000252corr1|doi=10.1136/bmjopen-2011-000252corr1|issn=2044-6055|pmc=|pmid=31712351|access-date=|quote=|via=}}</ref><ref>{{Cite journal | last = BMJ Publishing Group Ltd and Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health | first = | authorlink = | date = 2020-02-01| title = Correction: Obesity in adolescents with chronic fatigue syndrome: an observational study|url=https://adc.bmj.com/content/105/2/e1|journal=Archives of Disease in Childhood|language=en|volume=105|issue=2| pages = e1βe1|doi=10.1136/archdischild-2016-311293corr1|issn=0003-9888|pmc=|pmid=31969354|access-date=|quote=|via=}}</ref> The publications were reclassified as "service evaluations" which did not require ethics approval.
