Immune system
The immune system is primarily formed by the innate immune system which we are born with, and the adaptive immune system which learns how to fight pathogens (for example from vaccines, or infections we contract).

The adaptive immune system, also known as the acquired immune system, learns to destroy diseases, viruses and other pathogens. Unlike the innate immune system it is able to learn by distinguishing by "non-self" elements, and generating a response to destroy the pathogen. (more...)
