Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) is a family of enzymes that release arachadonic acid, EPA and DHA from cell membranes for the production of eicosanoids, signaling molecules involved in inflammation.

Increased PLA2 activity is associated with neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, prion disease and epilepsy[1] and inflammatory diseases such as fibromyalgia.[2]
