A pathological inability to produce sufficient energy on demand with prominent symptoms primarily in the neuroimmune regions is regarded as the hallmark symptom of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis in the International Consensus Criteria.[1] What this means is that the biological / physiological disease processes that cause ME totally prevent the person from having enough energy available to them to meet their body's needs. the nature of this means it cannot be corrected by additional effort, by pushing through symptoms, altered diet or nutrition, or by life-style changes, or exercise programnes.[1][2]
