Parkinson's disease or Parkinson's syndrome is a progressive neurological disease linked to reduced levels of dopamine.[1][2]
Parkinsonism[edit | edit source]
Parkinsonism is when the symptoms of Parkinson's disease are caused by another brain disease, a brain injury or head injury, drugs or toxins.[3]
Parkinsonism can be caused by West Nile virus encephalitis or other forms of viral encephalitis, and a rare "brain inflammation" after a flu-like infection.[3]
Symptoms[edit | edit source]
Main symptoms of Parkinson's disease are a tremor experienced when resting muscles, muscle rigidity (stiffness), slower and uncoordinated voluntary movements, and difficulties with balance.[2]
