The olfactory bulb is a structure in the brain that is responsible for the sense of smell. It sits outside the blood-brain barrier.
HHV-6 has an affinity for leukocytes and nervous tissue, especially the olfactory bulb tissues[1], from which it is thought to disseminate to other parts of the brain.
