Maryann Spurgin

Maryann Spurgin, Ph.D., is the founder of the ME Society of America (now archived; see below). She lives in Shreveport, Louisiana, US and has lived with myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) since March 1982. She taught philosophy until she became too ill. She worked as a science writer and writer on medical politics for many years and also wrote on the science and politics of myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) until 2017, having spent considerable time studying philosophy of science post-graduation.  In addition to a Ph.D. in philosophy, in her 40s, she spent 6 years studying classics with a focus on ancient history. Maryann has a deep love of music, and she has spent her retirement working with vocal coaches studying voice, and has done some songwriting as well.
