Mark Donohoe

From MEpedia, a crowd-sourced encyclopedia of ME and CFS science and history

Mark Donohoe is a GP and integrative medicine doctor based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, who mostly treats patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, myalgic encephalomyelitis, fibromyalgia, multiple chemical sensitivity, and chronic inflammation. According to Donohoe, "treating a person with CFS requires time, patience, a willingness to hear their story and a commitment not to abandon them." He also claims that about half of patients referred to him by other GPs do not have CFS, but another diagnosis missed by basic tests.[1]

Protocol[edit | edit source]

  • Carry out a basic medical and family history
  • Obtain details of antecedents of onset
  • Examine assuming it is not CFS
  • Do basic tests - thyroid, heart, cancer, auto-immune
  • Organise a series of consults a few weeks apart
  • Discuss exercise and diet
  • Consider use of NSAIDs and Omega 3s for pain
  • Take expanded history if no results with tests
  • Further tests - urinary iodine, basic immunology, stool test, expanded serology
  • Work with a team of practitioners[1]

He has also developed a stepwish approach called "GEMINI" - standing for genetics, environment, microbiome, inflammation, nutrition, and "the I that is We".[2]
