Semi-protected pages

Reasons for semi-protecting pages include:

  • Avoiding vandalism on previously vandalized pages or pages with a history of edit wars
  • Avoiding anonymous or disruptive editors from editing on controversial topics
  • Ensuring very new editors do not change documentation without discussion

Fully protected pages can only be edited by administrators.

Fully protected pages

Pages that are typically fully protected include:

  • Standard user interface messages displayed to all users (MediaWiki namespace)
  • Certain essential templates or redirects
  • Policy pages that only need to be edited by administrators
  • Final-status pages that are not meant to be edited
