This page describes newly added features for editors.

Nov 2019[edit | edit source]

  • Now you can thank other editors for a specific edit with just one click: To do so, click the "thank" link in any page history or page diff. Being an MEpedia editor includes many opportunities for negative feedback, so we need more positive feedback options like this in MEpedia!

Aug 2019[edit | edit source]

  • The dates shown in references should now automatically be shown in the form MMM DD, YYYY when you save pages. No more need to change the format of dates generated automatically.
  • Now you can spruce up your User Page with Userboxes! Simply insert a Userbox template into your User Page to let other editors know a little more about you!

Jul 2019[edit | edit source]

  • Did you know that images from "Free access" and "Open access" might not be licensed for reuse? And that images from tweets aren't licensed as "public domain" images? Or that any image from PLOS ONE or Gray's anatomy is fine for reuse? MEpedia:Copyright policy explains more...
  • Thank other editors on talk pages by using one of the following Thank templates:
    • Type "{{Thanks}}" to generate "Smiley face Thanks".
    • Type "{{Thank you}}" to generate "Smiley face Thank you".
    • Type "{{Thank You IP}}" to generate "Sunflower A special thank you for your help in our battle against vandalism. Thank you so much for your efforts to improve this encyclopedia, and Welcome to MEpedia! ~~~ ~~~~~
Please consider creating an account for yourself!

".

  • Now you can cite a tweet! In the Visual Editor, click on "Cite" in the toolbar, select the "Manual" tab, and then click on "Tweet".
  • Ever wanted to cite a specific page in a reference? Now you can! Simply add your citation, and then insert the "Reference pages" template right after the citation, in order to specify the exact pages in the citation. The "Rp" template is a shorthand form of this. No more need to list the same citation multiple times in the references section, just to specify different page numbers!
  • In order to display quotations on pages in a visually appealing manner, you can now insert quote templates.
  • The lefthand sidebar menu now includes helpful links, such as MEpedia:Pages in need and Glossary.
  • Use radio buttons to show or hide page text or interactively switch between images with Template:Switcher. (advanced users only)
  • Help:ADDCOPYRIGHT describes how to add missing license information to existing images.
  • The Special:Upload page now allows images without license information to be tagged with the "Unknown copyright" template.

Jun 2019[edit | edit source]

  • The Free art license has been added as a file license option for new uploads.
  • Editing on a mobile or tablet is now much improved with the default interface, or with the new Pivot and Timeless skins.
  • (administrators and bureaucrats only) A new ReplaceText extension allows you to replace any words on all pages at once.

May 2019[edit | edit source]

  • All users now have additional interfaces that can be used, and these interfaces are called "skins". The Timeless skin is intended for people with extreme light sensitivity. You can choose a skin in your user preferences.
  • Save time with our lists of suggested science sources and suggested image sources - including common citations you can copy and paste, and great websites for scientific images.

Apr 2019[edit | edit source]

  • A project to improve our documentation increased information in the MEpedia help and MEpedia documentation categories- with more improvements planned!
  • A new MEpedia:Tutorial has been created to get new users up to speed fast.
  • The "CAPTCHA" messages (What does the C in CFS stand for?) are now turned off for established editors with an edit record.
  • The new Glossary page format means selected words or phrases used on any page will automatically have a dotted underline, along with a pop-up "tooltip" message. Some terms that don't need a dedicated page can be added to Glossary in order to explain what they are. See documentation at Help:Glossary.
  • You can now share MEpedia pages on social media, using "AddThis" links visible on all pages. (may not be visible when using an ad blocker)

Mar 2019[edit | edit source]

  • A new one-stop-shop for page fixes now available in MEpedia:Pages in need, created for common editor tasks and linked to from the sidebar.

Feb 2019[edit | edit source]

  • A new page has been set up as a help desk and general discussion forum: MEpedia:Help desk, created for any discussions not discussed elsewhere.

  • You can now hide unimportant or overly-long content by inserting the "Collapse top" and "Collapse bottom" templates. These are very popular for hiding old conversations on talk pages.
